Fostering Resilience in Patients with Life-Limiting Illness using Aromatherapy
📅 Thursday, 21 May | 7:00pm NZT | Live Online 🎟 Free to attend
'High-levels of emotional and social support, combined with optimism, hope and spirituality, are central to increased levels of resilience in this patient group'
(Seiler & Jenewein 2019)
We know that resilience offers a means of protection against the negative impacts of stress, at the same time supporting an individual's adjustment to their end-of-life care.
Â
Resilience is a complex interplay of an individual’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions. This aligns with the holistic care model – one that is integral to the working philosophies of many health disciplines, including palliative care.
Â
All too often though, the deeply embedded roots of the medical model reduces the focus of care to the physical aspects of symptoms and their management. Â
Â
If we are to successfully foster resilience in our patients, it is critical that we value their human wholeness.
What this session is about

- The role emotional, social and spiritual distress plays in a patient’s journey and why it’s often overlooked in healthcare
- How aromatherapy supports holistic care across the physical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions
- Practical insights through in-depth clinical case studies which consider the reality from the patient’s perspective
